Hello! The Williams'
are off on an adventure again - this time sans kids! Just the old couple for a
crazy long 4 months in our 25th year of marriage... nothing like a holiday to
test the bonds right!? :)
So basically this is
the rough plan:
- 10 nights in Morocco - land in
Casablanca spend a couple of nights, take the train to Marrakech for
5 nights, then on to El-Jedida a coastal town which sounds a bit quieter
to spend 2 nights – Back to Casa for a night and fly to Barcelona. Bit
rushed - but this is my dream of 20 years and I don't want to miss a thing
(already given up on spending time in Fes)
- Barcelona – land and head to the campervan
hire place.
o Ben’s hired us a
WICKED camper which I’m really conflicted about cos I’ve actually signed online
petitions to ban their offensive slogans! However, when I liaised with our
contact in Europe she assured me that that sort of smut is mainly found on
the vans in Australia and that Europe is a bit more staid. So here’s hoping! Still not happy about going
against my values - but it's done now.
·
2.5 months touring around Europe in the campervan get as far as we
can and still actually EXPERIENCE the countries we will travel through (tho'
we'd love to get as far as Istanbul!). No set time frames of where to be when
except for 12th – 14th July spent in Paris cos
of our 25th anniversary on the 13th (and 14th is
Bastille Day so will be interesting to check out).
o My romantic husband
has booked us into the same hostel (yes, HOSTEL!) we stayed at in Paris 15
years ago – I immediately thought “WHAT? Bunk beds and shared bathrooms again?
How romantic!! Not!” – but apparently we’ve gone upmarket and it’s a room with
a double bed and ensuite! Oooh and breakfast is included! Breakfast 15 years ago was a small baguette, with butter and jam
and a strong coffee! J So yay for romance! :D
He’s adorable really – tho’ an amazing hotel would have been more my
idea of 25th anniversary celebrations! BUT funnily enough I’m
actually excited!
·
We end up in Frankfurt where we return the van and fly out to
Havana, Cuba.
·
Cuba - We have 12 nights with 4 nights in Havana at a casa
particular (which means we get a room in a private home – this one had great
reviews and the owners speak good English). After that we’ll ask our casa owner
to give us some advice where to visit. Very open ended. We would love to hire a
car and drive ourselves to Trinidad – but we’ll see when we get there.
·
Next stop Mexico for 8 nights. We’ve booked to stay in Mexico City
and don’t want to fill this time with travel – so may pop over to Cholula (largest archaeological site of a pyramid
/temple in the New World) which is only a couple of hours by bus from MX
city – that’s probably as far as we’ll venture. Save up our energy
for the next bit!
·
New York baby!!! 8 nights – dividing this up between 2 cousins and
an old school friend who live over there. Can’t wait to show Ben around this
city that I fell in love with 8 years ago!
·
Then back home for about a month before we go live on our boat and
start yet another, whole different adventure!
Since it's a bit of
an epic trip to plan with both of us busy with work, we decided to split the
planning - Ben took on the 2.5 months in Europe and I undertook planning of
Morocco, Cuba, Mexico and New York
So yes, this epic
journey has got to beat Pooh's Grand Adventure!
And on that note …
here’s a couple of Pooh quotes to end this first post ... *thank you A.A. Milne
for always inspiring!
“One of the advantages of being disorganized is
that one is always having surprising discoveries.” - yup,
that'll be my excuse when we get lost in Cuba and Mexico!
“When you see someone putting on his Big Boots, you can be pretty sure
that an Adventure is going to happen.” - off to go put on our Big Boots (or at least to start packing!)
Catch you lovely
people on the other side of the big blue sea!
